The Letter Lab Alef Bet Readiness Checklist:

We want to ensure children are ready before introducing materials to them. Traditional workbook-style materials can be completed hastily or incorrectly and still appear ‘done,’ but we emphasize the importance of learning readiness, skill acquisition, and mastery. We don’t want children to simply repeat and rehash material without true ownership of learning. We don’t want children to go through the worklets but not really absorb the materials, requiring them to relearn the alef bet again. Unlike games or dry-erase materials that suggest repeated use, our Worklets don’t imply repetition for its own sake. Instead, we can use games and dry-erase materials before moving to the worklets, allowing children opportunities to practice, correct mistakes, and build confidence before attempting the worklets. Ultimately, assessing readiness is crucial – to ensure children are prepared to engage with the material and absorb the learning.

You will need the The Letter Lab Alef Bet Worklet Companion for this orientation. It is included as part of the Worklet Kit.

The Worklet Companion is a valuable resource that accompanies the Worklet, providing essential background knowledge on the learning targets for each page, general housekeeping information, and guidance on how to use the Worklet to measure learning. Additionally, it offers suggestions on how to modify lessons to support diverse learners, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. The Companion also includes links to external resources, further enriching the learning experience and providing teachers with a wealth of support materials to cater to different learning styles and needs, ultimately enhancing the overall educational journey for the children.

The Letter Lab Worklet Scope & Sequence

A scope and sequence, or learning targets, helps teachers create a clear and structured educational journey for their students. It not only outlines what students are expected to learn, but also simplifies record keeping, informs curriculum planning, and enables teachers to think about the big picture, ensuring that each lesson and activity aligns with a broader educational vision.

The Letter Lab Alef Bet External Assessments

LL External Assessment Row 1

LL External & Final Assessment/ NikudQuestUnit 1 Kamatz Readiness Assesment

The purpose of external assessments is to ensure children are learning and progressing as expected. These assessments provide an objective measure of a child’s acquisition of previously taught skills and their readiness for the next level. Sometimes, it’s practical to have an independent evaluator or alternative materials to verify a child’s understanding, providing an official measurement of their knowledge and skills. This helps confirm that children are adequately prepared to move forward, and identifies areas where additional support may be needed. There are external assessments for each row and one final assessments for after all the alef bet. This final assessment doubles and a readiness for NikudQuest Unit 1- Kamatz.

The Letter Lab Certificates for All Letters

Giving children certificates can be a powerful motivator, encouraging a sense of accomplishment and pride in their achievements. It recognizes their hard work and progress, builds confidence and self-esteem, and provides a tangible representation of their success. By acknowledging and celebrating their achievements, certificates can help children develop a growth mindset and a sense of accountability, setting them up for future success.
