Welcome to Hebrew Scouts! I’m Nechamy Segal, founder and creator of Hebrew Scouts. As a Hebrew and English literacy specialist, I’ve dedicated my career to making literacy accessible and enjoyable for all learners. Join me on this journey as we explore the art and science of teaching Hebrew literacy, and discover how our universal curriculum can empower you and your students to succeed.
My experiences as an educator and my passion for literacy education led me to create Hebrew Scouts. Our curriculum is designed with diverse learners in mind but benefits all learners. The “curb cut effect” in education refers to the idea that accommodations and supports designed for students with learning differences (like dyslexia) ultimately benefit all learners. Just like curb cuts in sidewalks, intended for wheelchair accessibility, also help parents with strollers, travelers with luggage, and others, educational supports for dyslexic students can enhance the learning experience for everyone.
Our goal is to provide a universal education that supports all children, ensuring struggling learners don’t fall behind. By understanding why many children struggle in the classroom, we can introduce preventative education, anticipating potential challenges and proactively providing supports to help all children overcome them. This approach enables us to bring universal education to the classroom, setting all children up for success. We do this by integrating traditional Mesorah approaches, with the science of Hebrew reading, and with what is practical, creating a cohesive and effective methodology.
At Hebrew Scouts, our mission is to empower educators like you with the tools and knowledge to make Hebrew literacy education easy, enjoyable, and meaningful for all students. We believe that connecting to the Hebrew language should be an intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and practical experience. By sharing our expertise and resources, we hope to make a positive impact on Hebrew literacy education and support the success of all learners.
